Biola women’s tennis fell hard 9-0 against the University of La Verne on Saturday. It was the Eagle’s first match of the 2013 season, where they will try to bounce back from a tough 2012 year.

Sophomore Lauren Vogel put up the best fight for Biola in the No. 5 singles match, taking Megan Soucy to three sets, but eventually falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

The rest of the matches went quickly for La Verne as no other Eagle was able to take a set.

Freshman Kathryn Ashford started off singles play for Biola, falling 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Olivia Koelsch and senior Alisha Hansen played the No. 2 and 3 singles matches, but both dropped 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Susan Carmichael and junior Maura Lopez wrapped up singles play with neither able to gain any ground on La Verne.

In doubles play, the Eagles came out winless again with Koelsch and Hansen in the No. 1 doubles match falling 8-1. Carmichael and Ashford put up the biggest fight for Biola, going down 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles match. In the No. 3 doubles match Vogel teamed up with junior Paige Erickson, but the duo fell 8-0.

The Eagle’s next match is Friday Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. when the team will travel to Whittier College.
