The Biola women’s soccer team advanced to the Golden State Athletic Conference finals with a 2-1 victory over Westmont College Friday night.

Senior forward Ashleigh Cooley got the scoring started for the Eagles in the 16th minute when she received a pass from Jessica Austin in the middle of the box and put it into the back of the net.

Austin, a junior forward, came up huge for the Eagles on Friday picking up assists on both goals.

The second came in the 62nd minute when Austin sent another ball into the box. This time the Warriors’ goalkeeper went for the ball but missed it, leaving junior forward Chrissy King wide open for the goal.

Westmont kept the pressure on the Biola defense though, outshooting the Eagles 11-8, but Biola sophomore goalkeeper Briana Williams picked up four saves in the match.

In the 79th minute the Warriors closed the gap though with midfielder Jenny Martinez putting home a loose ball in front of the net, but it was not enough as the Eagles closed out the win.

Biola will travel to Vanguard University on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. for the GSAC Tournament championship game. The Eagles are the only GSAC team to score on the Lions this season.
