Biola played hard against NAIA No. 1 University of Texas at Brownsville at Chase Gymnasium on Saturday in a non-Golden State Athletic Conference match. The Scorpions swept the Eagles in straight sets to stay undefeated and drop Biola to 23-3 overall this season.

After getting off to a slow start in the beginning of the first set, Biola called an early timeout at 5-1 Texas-Brownsville to regroup. Christine Douglas was able to get some momentum going for the Eagles with a point off a tip coming out of the timeout. The Eagles continued to find holes in the Scorpions’ defense throughout the rest of the match. Biola trailed behind for most of the set, finally losing 25-20.

Biola came out fighting in the second set and stayed close with Texas-Brownsville throughout the entire set. The Eagles used a 4-0 run to get right back into the set to tie it at 17-17 and force Texas-Brownsville into a timeout. The Eagles were not able to push ahead, though, and lost the second set 21-25.

Despite swinging hard in the third set and establishing an early lead, the Eagles fell to the Scorpions in the third and final set 18-25.

WIth the Eagle’s record now at 23-3 overall and 9-1 in GSAC play they will have almost a full week off until they host conference opponent Arizona Christian University on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
