After being crushed in the relay portion of the sixth annual Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center, Biola Swim and Dive sallied forth into the second day’s individual events, claiming several victories throughout the course of the meet.

In a twist of typical format, the meet featured multiple short events, including the 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard individual medley. While Biola opted out of these events, the team shone in several of the 25-yard events. Sophomore Joslyn Kiel placed first in her heat in the women’s 25-yard fly with a time of 0:13.53, while her teammate freshman Angela Kirschner took first in the fourth heat with a 0:12.1.

Things really heated up during the women’s 100-yard back when sophomore Christine Tixier, fresh off of breaking the 100 butterfly record during the NAIA national championships last year, battled Concordia University Irvine for the lead. The race ended in a tight finish favoring the Concordia swimmer, who came in at 1:04.94, while Tixier finished at a 1:05.55.

The men followed the women’s precedent during the 100-yard freestyle with senior Chris Stutzman lunging toward the wall and seizing a 47.56 and second place.

After completing the first competitive meet of the year, Stutzman said he is confident the team will continue to improve.

“I think they did pretty well, considering that we’re in the beginning of the season,” he said.
