Men’s soccer had only one goal Thursday night at home, but it proved to be enough as the Eagles held off Golden State Athletic Conference opponent Arizona Christian University, 1-0.
Freshman forward Stephen Tanquary scored his third goal on the year putting Biola on the board in the 12th minute with a sharp header off an assist from senior midfielder Julio Cuevas. Dominating and keeping the ball in the Firestorm’s half for most of the game, the Eagles took 29 total shots, with 10 of them on goal, and were awarded 11 corners.
The men showed intensity on both sides of the ball. Playing solid team defense all around, they allowed only 3 shots the whole game with one being on goal. Despite a few last minute pushes from ACU, the Eagles held strong and freshman goalkeeper Joshua Crickton earned his 4th shutout of the season.
Biola now moves to 6-3-1 overall with a 2-1 conference record. The win keeps the 19th nationally ranked Eagles at number 4 in the GSAC conference. The men go back on the road to take on Westmont College this Saturday at noon. The Warriors come in with a 3-4-1 overall record, but have yet to secure their first conference win.
