PENDING

  • Senior Bluff senator Dani Decena requested $800 for a barbecue to feed the 170 to 200 students who live at the Bluff, which includes the Li, Welch and Thompson apartments. The money will cover food, beverages, entertainment, barbecue supplies and advertising.

“This is the third year we’ve had the barbecue,” Decena said. “Last year, the residents liked it so much in the fall that they wanted to do it again in the spring.”

PASSED

  • Senators passed junior film major Erika Pontius’ request for $1,500 for a short film she is producing, titled “Still Have Questions.” The funds will cover the movie’s completion, advertising and premiere.

  • Senators passed freshman William Langworthy’s request for $310.80 for a pingpong ball dispenser in the lobby of Emerson.

“I think that pingpong is a central part of our community,” said sophomore South Horton senator Brady Brewster. “My floor consists mainly of freshmen, and we all play pingpong late at night.”

  • Senators passed sophomore Hart Hall senator Tristan Engh’s request for $1,442 for “Hart Loves Week” to cover advertising, food and supplies. This will be Hart’s second year of hosting this event.

“When you introduce yourself [and meet others] at a dorm event, you see those people a lot,” said junior Stewart Hall senator Jacob Dunning. “These types of events build a stronger community as opposed to an off-campus event.”

  • Senators passed junior Larissa Clem’s request for $870 for Stewart’s KiltFest. This event, which has been a tradition for more than a decade, will be a two-day event for the first time. A root beer keg, advertising, games and prizes will be funded.

  • Senators passed a request for $1,300 for Candyland — an event in Alpha Hall that provides a safe environment for community members to celebrate Halloween — which was proposed by Alpha sophomore senators Rebecca Gallagher and Nikki Garcia. Senators requested less money this year since they had $300 left over from last year.

DENIED

  • Senators denied sophomore film majors Melissa McAllister and Ivana Jiron’s request for $2,000 for “The Story I Heard” which is a short film the two friends wrote over interterm. The money would have covered the cost of equipment, location fees and casting. Since this film is currently in preproduction, the AS Senate agreed that it would be better to fund a film that was in its last stages of planning, rather than one that was just starting out.
