DUI, Lot O (Crowell)
7:34 p.m.

Campus Safety caught an individual driving while intoxicated on campus Monday night around 7:30 p.m. Campus Safety declined to comment on the person’s identity.

The gatehouse attendant at the La Mirada Boulevard entrance noticed a strong smell of alcohol as the individual entered the gate, prompting the attendant to call Campus Safety. An officer responded and called the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, who came to investigate.

The individual’s case is set to go through the district attorney’s office in approximately two months, according to LASD. After this, more details regarding the nature of the crime and its penalty will be available.

Sept. 18

Stalking in Creek Park
6:45 p.m.

Campus Safety said a man followed a young female student from Creek Park onto campus Tuesday night at 6:45. The woman called Campus Safety on her way from the park and they and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department intercepted the man. Juan Mata, 24, was turned over to Norwalk Sheriff. He was not charged. Mata’s reason for following the girl was that he was physically attracted to her, according to Justin Shelby. Mata had no previous record.

Sept. 19

Bora Drive
11:25 a.m.

Two teens are said to have fired an assault rifle in a La Mirada residential neighborhood late Wednesday morning, according to Sgt. Mike Mendoza of the Norwalk Sheriff’s Department.

“[The] only additional information we have is that two vehicles were seen leaving the location. No one actually saw anyone doing … the firing. At this point we have very little information, the suspects are possibly two male Hispanics but we’re not sure,” Mendoza said.

The investigation is still ongoing as to whether or not the shooting was gang-related.
