The opening race at the University of Redlands Invitational proved to be successful once again for the Biola women's cross country team who secured the first six spots on Saturday morning. Biola junior Danny Ledesma finished fifth in the men's 6000-meter race that was dominated mostly by the  Los Angeles Technical Trade College.

Biola freshmen Kellian Hunt, Iliam Kung and Neysa Mains secured three of the top six spots. Senior Rachel Stump was the highlight of the woman's 4500-meter race when she finished first with 16:55.50 as the only runner to complete the race under 17 minutes. Hunt, who maintained a steady lead the first half of the race finished with 17:00.60. Junior Chelsea Janzen finished third with 17:12.00 and Kung followed Janzen with 17:70.60. Junior Kasey Schalich and Mains took the fifth and sixth spots with 17:18.00 and 17:20.90.

For the men's team, senior Collin Christiansen crossed the finish line with 19:15.60 and placed 11th. The closest runner after him was Spencer Lyle placing 26th with a time of 20:13.50.

The Eagles will have their next race in Irvine at the University of California Irvine Invitational next Saturday. Men’s and women’s races begin at 8 a.m. with the men in a 8000-meter course while the women compete in the 5000-meter.
