Baseball drops game one to Concordia

The baseball team lost 4-3 against Concordia University on March 29.

Biola fell out of second place in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings on Thursday, losing 4-3 to Concordia University.

The loss drops the Eagles to 10-7 in GSAC play.

Allen allows game-winning run in relief

Sophomore pitcher Erick Allen was tagged with his first loss of the season, as he allowed the go-ahead run in the top half of the ninth inning off a RBI triple from Concordia left fielder Kyle Konicek, the only earned run given up by the Eagles in the game.

Junior starting pitcher Jeff Grijalva pitched the first 6.2 innings for the Eagles and didn’t allow a hit until one out in the fifth courtesy of a bunt single from Concordia center fielder John Doering.

Concordia took a 2-0 lead into the fourth thanks to two unearned runs, but Biola tied it up in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of RBI singles from senior catcher Mike Lopez and junior center fielder Benji Sutherland.

Sutherland continued to produce offensively in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.

Lopez broke out of a 1-for-16 slump, going 4-for-4 with an RBI in the losing effort.

Biola looks to rebound tomorrow

Tomorrow junior starting pitcher Chris Baek will take the mound in game two, hoping to follow up his complete game shutout last Friday against The Master’s College. Baek has a record of 2-1 and a 1.42 ERA in his last four outings.

First pitch will be at 3 P.M. at Eagles Diamond.
