Eagles fall behind early, lose 65-39

Biola University women’s basketball had a hard time keeping up early on in the game as they were shut down 65-39 by Vanguard University on Friday night. Both teams entered the matchup 5-1, but the loss dropped the Eagles to 5-2 and the Lions improved to 6-1.

The Eagles’ struggle started in the first half as the Lions only let them keep a lead the first two minutes of the game. The Eagles were able to keep the game close until 9:32 left in the first period when Vanguard’s Alison Drennan’s 3-pointer secured their lead.

Hill and Adams provide Eagles some offense, just not enough

Freshman Chelsea Hill and sophomore Adijat Adams were the leading scorers for the Eagles – Hill with 9 points, one assist and two rebounds, and Adams contributed with five rebounds and eight points. But this was not enough for Vanguard’s Trisha Goddard who scored 16 and Alison Drennan who scored 14 to lead the Lions to victory.

The Lions came out confident in the second period as they dominated 51-32. Biola, unable to catch up, was at least 16 points or more behind the rest of the game. Allison Burn’s jumper with 00:57 left in the period, ended and won the game for the Lions. While the Eagles shot 30.9 percent on 17 of 55 shots,, the Lions managed 40.0 percent on 22-55 shots.

The Eagles play their next game at home against La Sierra University on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 5:30 p.m.
