Eagles lose 1-0 to No. 4 Point Loma

The Biola women’s soccer team lost 1-0 to NAIA No. 4 ranked Point Loma Nazarene University in a conference matchup on Saturday. The Eagles had their five-game win streak snapped and fell to an 8-6 overall record and 5-2 in the Golden State Athletic Conference, while the Sea Lions remain unbeaten and improved to 15-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference.

Point Loma took a 1-0 lead with a goal from senior Erica Wessels in the 11th minute. It turned out to be the game-winning shot since both teams remained scoreless for the rest of the match. The Eagles had only two shot attempts in the first period in contrast to the Sea Lions’ six shot attempts.

Biola comes out strong in the second half but still falls short

Biola spent the second half desperately trying to net a goal to tie the score. They had five shot attempts and held Point Loma to only one, which came from junior Katherine Caldwell two minutes into the period.

“We did not have a good first half. However, we came out in the second half with more heart and determination than ever,” junior Katie Cabuling said.

Despite this, the Eagles were unable to land a shot within the goal and get past Sea Lion goalkeeper, junior Tiffany Kracy.

Senior Erin Frushon had two saves for Biola, while Kracy had three for Point Loma. Earlier this week, Frushon received both GSAC Defensive Player of the Week and NAIA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.

“As a team, our hard work, heart and determination have gotten us this far and will continue to carry us,” Cabuling said.

The Eagles regular season finale is at home against Vanguard University on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
