Sleeping With Sirens, a band made up of members from some of the nation’s most popular post-hardcore acts, has gained renown for their high energy stage presence and the soaring vocals of frontman Kellin Quinn. Quinn’s siren-like vocals have been known to captivate the hearts of young teenage girls, and it comes as no surprise to hear the girls scream the moment Quinn and his band step on stage.
Previous albums warmly welcomed
Originating from the “gator” county of Orlando, Fla., Sleeping With Sirens has released two albums produced by their signed label, Rise Records. Their first album, “With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear,” was widely received by American teens. It even debuted at number seven on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart and at number 36 on Top Independent Albums. This success was undoubtedly expected to be repeated on their latest album.
New album brings positive reaction
“Let’s Cheer To This” was released on May 9 and band’s popularity has continued. The album features 11 fist-pumping tracks and iTunes rates three of these tracks as “hot.” The album’s success has even landed them slots on the All Star Tour with For Today and Chelsea Grin, Michigan’s Rockapalooza with Silverstein and Chiodos, and a United Kingdom/European tour with A Skylit Drive. The album was worth a cheer to more than just American teens. “Let’s Cheer To This” has successfully furthered the band’s name across the global stage.
Mixed messages
Interestingly, Sleeping With Siren’s first album was not only known for Quinn’s amazing vocals, but also for the song content. Some fans speculate that Quinn and the band wrote the album with some underlying Christian themes. Songs such as, “The Bomb Dot Com V2.0,” mention giving everything and living for “you.” The band never blatantly states who the “you” is, which causes some to assume that “you” is God, but I do not believe so. The album’s lyrics are primarily targeted towards girls or the “one girl.” This “one girl” is also the “you,” which would eliminate any sort of Christian theme in the album.
“Let’s Cheer To This” follows this same kind of pattern. All of the songs are addressed to girls or the “one girl.” The song lyrics are pleas for “the girl” to stay with him, which alludes to the singer, Quinn.
Album is a growing success
According to iTunes, all of the featured album tracks are increasingly popular. The top rated tracks are, “If You Can’t Hang,” “All My Heart,” and “Do It Now Remember It Later” but the rest of the tracks are still good. The band did a wonderful job meshing the emotions of the lyrics with the dynamics of the music.
It is safe to say, Sleeping With Sirens devises their own labyrinth to interest their audiences. This is why they are successful. Today religions and their associations, especially Christianity, are often scorned by the public. It is a miracle that Christian bands in the hardcore genre, such as For Today, remain marketable. Nevertheless, they do not have the same effect on their audiences as Sleeping With Sirens. The songs of the band are much too sweet for listeners to pass up.
Is the album worth the cheer? Many people seem to think so, including other bands. The distinctive lure of Sleeping With Sirens is worth more than a cheer and a couple gigs. As stated earlier, their style has landed them at least three tours, one of them outside of the U.S. For Christians, it is worth the cheer, but a cautious one. The band has definitely created a beautiful sound to be enjoyed by any audience, regardless of faith, but be careful not to get caught up in the siren.
