Biola athletes honored with reception

Members of the Biola community gathered to honor winter athletic teams Tuesday, April 12.

An athletic reception honored the winter athletic teams Tuesday, April 12 in the Caf Banquet Room. Coaches spoke in tribute of their teams, and President Barry Corey spoke and highlighted on this season’s success. He introduced the men’s basketball head coach David Holmquist, and mentioned Holmquist’s 800th win, which was celebrated earlier this semester.

Ken Crawford, head coach of the women’s basketball team, spoke highlighting key members of his team. Other coaches who spoke about strategic players on their team included track and field coach Jonathan Zimmerman, and swimming and diving head coach, Brittany Sharpe.

While Zimmerman was highlighting the achievements of his team he said, “It’s been 103 years and we finally got a trophy.” Zimmerman continued, jesting, “And it might be another 103 years until we get another.”

Holmquist, along with introducing other coaches, was given the opportunity to mention some of his own key players. “Now I get to brag about my own team!” Holmquist said.

After all the winter sports coaches recognized their teams, Corey concluded the celebration by calling all the athletes to the front of the room to pray over them.

In addition to coaches and players, Biola staff and faculty and members of Associated Students were present.
