The Concordia men are ranked ninthin the NAIA, and fifth in the GSAC Conference, compared to Biola’s seventh place ranking. The Concordia women are ranked eighth in the NAIA and fourth in the GSAC, compared to Biola’s seventh place ranking. Concordia held full control throughout the match, cruising to 9-0 victories on both sides, and the second win for the men’s team against Biola.
Men’s recap
Sophomore David Mossman was the men’s sole bright spot on this Saturday afternoon. Although he could not snag a victory in either of his matches, he teamed up with senior Ryan Adams in a close doubles match, but lost 8-5. When he turned his attention to singles, he again brought his best effort. He again pushed his match to three sets, as he has most of the season, despite battling very tough competition. He has proved to be a workhorse all season, never quitting until there is a decisive final score. His first set was lost 6-7, but was pushed to a tiebreaker which ended 7-4. His effort from that set carried over into the next, where he pulled away with a 6-4 victory. Concordia senior Kareem Berdai won the final set 10-6 for a well fought victory.
The men have struggled to get victories, but Mossman recognizes the effort his teammates have brought all season. Their efforts in a frustrating season shined through in their match against George Fox, where they dominated 9-0. Mossman knows there are only a few games left in the season, and expects they will, “Go all out for every match.”
Women’s recap
The Biola women have also struggled this season, and this week unfortunately was no different, but they also are in the GSAC, the toughest division of the NAIA, and have been sending out a young and inexperienced team. They are led by senior Kristen Williams, who has done her best to mentor these young athletes, and guide them to winning ways. The women have carried five freshmen as well as three sophomores on their team of 10. With the wisdom and spiritual coaching that Head Coach Dee Henry provides, these ladies will be in excellent hands moving forward for the future. This season has been one for growth and learning, but regardless has been filled with minor victories along the way, which is clear through the attitudes of the ladies after the match.
Upcoming matches
As the season nears, the Biola Eagles look to secure a late season victory against one of these tough opponents. The women’s team will face four straight contenders in the next week and a half before meeting the Master’s University who has also struggled this season. The men will play three contenders in the same span, before turning their attention to the Master’s University. Head out to the tennis courts to offer some needed encouragement April 1 when they face Concordia again.
