The Pepperdine University Waves upset Biola men’s lacrosse Saturday, March 19. The 8-4 loss leaves the Eagles frustrated and disheartened. But where the Biola offense lacked, the defense did its best to fill the gap. Senior defenseman Justin Harrington crossed the midfield, approached the opponent’s net and scored one of Biola’s goals.

Team unprepared, performs poorly

After a despairing first half, the Eagles were only down 4-2. Their offense needed a kick start but continued to be rolled over by the Waves. Junior midfielder David Sigley said the Eagles weren’t mentally in the game––a result of forgotten jerseys, helmets, and all around unpreparedness. The weather was fair, but the Pepperdine field “was worse than probably a cow pasture,” according to Sigley. However, this wasn’t a major factor in the Eagle’s performance, which the team feels to be their poorest yet. Failure to connect passes and the inability to scoop up ground balls doomed Biola.

Loss discouraging heading into week of tough competition

The loss gives the Eagles a 1-6 overall record and strains their spirits. They were hoping for a victory to propel them into the next week of competition, which pits them against three unfamiliar teams: Central Washington University on Monday, Metropolitan State College on Wednesday, and Marymount College on Saturday. Hopefully, they will turn the loss into an opportunity and incentive to hatch a winning streak.
