Spring has arrived at Biola; flowers are blooming, days are sunny, and an influx of prospective students could be seen on Monday, Feb. 18, devouring cafeteria food, making new friends, and generally cramming as much touring into their two day visit as humanly possible.
It was the second day of this year’s Spring Preview Weekend, and the Biola campus was abuzz with fresh faces excited to learn about Biola.
Eugene and Cherry Brown, attending Spring Preview weekend with their son Eugene, were enthused about their visit.
Cherry said that she has particularly enjoyed the interaction with students and teachers.
Young Eugene was impressed by the cafeteria meal that they ate; “He wants the max plan,” his mother said, laughing.
Eugene Sr. appreciated the academic information. “I like that they have the Bible requirement,” he said about the mandatory 30 Biblical Studies units necessary for graduating from Biola.
According to Amy Foss, the Admissions Events assistant, Eugene Brown is one of 285 registered students visiting this year.
The participants are getting a “general overview of the entire college experience in two days,” Foss said. This overview included chapel, tours, classroom visits, and spending the night in a dorm with current Biola students.
Spring Preview day is one of several similar preview events available to prospective undergraduates; all of which make an impact on students—according to Foss, approximately 30 percent of current Biolans attended one of these events. “
It definitely swayed my decision,” said Leah Gunderson, a sophomore sociology major when discussing her preview visit. Gunderson, who came to Biola Bound in the fall, said that she liked the kind of people saw and thought that she would fit in well. She also particularly liked the school spirit displayed at Midnight Madness.
Gunderson is happy with her choice and is happy to be a part of the student body here.
“I love being at Biola,” said Gunderson.
