Biola’s women’s lacrosse team stepped onto the field to meet Chapman University Sunday afternoon, March 13, with determination and strength of character.

Chapman, ranked first in the Division II South Conference of the Western Women’s Lacrosse League, came to the match with the momentum of a seven game winning streak after defeating well-established club teams from Stanford University, University of Southern California and San Diego State University.

Despite the adverse circumstances, the Eagles put up a good struggle. Sophomore Courtney Cocoris started out strong, scoring the first goal with a skillful assist from sophomore Chelsea Skinner. The Chapman Panthers retaliated with a fierce upsurge on the offensive. Biola’s goalie, freshman Hannah Quinn, blocked a barrage of shots with a 50 percent success rate. By halftime, the score sat at 10-1, favoring Chapman.

The Eagles persevered through the second half and continued to play hard. Cocoris snuck another successful shot past the solid Chapman defense for a second goal.
Chapman heightened the attack, battering the Eagles’ defense with a torrent of quick shots.

The Panthers finished the game with 32 shots on goal, of which Quinn was able to deflect 11. The end score 21-2 did not discourage the Eagles, who fought well, displayed excellent sportsmanship and learned from the defeat. Biola’s women’s lacrosse looks forward to the last game of the season against Marymount College coming up next week.
