Biola baseball defeats Westmont Warriors, 6-0

Biola baseball defeated the Westmont Warriors on Wednesday, moving their season record to 11-8.

The Biola University Eagles defeated the Westmont College Warriors by the final score of 6-0 on Wednesday, March 9. Senior, Brian Loard, delivered the killer blow for the Eagles with a big one-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Biola starter, junior, Kevin Ryan pitched brilliantly, throwing a complete game, one-hit, shutout. Ryan remained perfect through the first 5.2 innings of the game, but he surrendered a two-out walk in the sixth. He continued to dominate Westmont and allowed no runs, with only one hit while striking out eight Warriors.

Biola posted two runs in the second inning when sophomore, Christopher Neal singled with two outs. Loard singled, sophomore, Benji Sutherland, reached on an error, and junior, Boone Farrington, walked setting up Neal for the big hit.

Biola added one more in the fifth after senior, Garrett Leon, singled and came around two score on two more hits from junior, Mac Sullivan, and Loard.

The Eagles broke things open in the fifth inning. Leon walked, Sullivan was hit by a pitch and then Loard sent the second pitch he saw way past the left field fence for a two-run home run. Loard finished with a game high four RBIs.

Biola improves their record to 11-8 including a 6-1 mark at home. The two teams play again Thursday, March 10 at Biola. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
