The Biola softball team found themselves up against Cal State San Marcos in a double header on the warm Saturday afternoon of March 5.
Eagles unable to score in first game
After the first inning of play, San Marcos jumped out to a quick lead, scoring an early run in the first. When star pitcher Brenna Sandberg came to the mound, she dominated the Eagles lineup, not allowing a base runner until the third inning, on a hit by pitch.
In the top of the fourth, San Marcos strung together a few hits, and took advantage of a rough inning by CeCe Luster, earning 5 runs, and finishing the inning up 6-0.
In bottom of the fourth, the Eagles began to find the gaps. CeCe Luster smacked a drive to center field, banging off the bottom of the fence. They followed with another hit, and then a walk, but still couldn’t find any runs. The dominance of the San Marcos offense continued, with the game finishing 11-0.
Teams stay close in second game
In the second game, both teams stayed close throughout the first few innings. San Marcos struck first with one early run, but Biola responded quickly, with an RBI single by Vanessa Coleman driving in pitcher Shaylynn Weststeyn for the first run.
In the third, San Marcos struck again, getting two runs, but again Biola responded with another run off of a slap single by Lauren Gandy, who stole second before scoring from second on a single by Lyndsie Roberts. San Marcos pitcher Brenna Sandberg continued her strong game, keeping Biola runners in the dugout for two straight games.
San Marcos continued to add runs throughout the game, expanding their lead to 4 with a final score of 6-2.
