The Biola University women’s basketball team overcame poor shooting in their first half to cruise to a 63-40 victory against Point Loma Nazarene University. It was the tale of two halves for the Eagles who shot a horrid 29% for the first period, and improved to 59% in the second half. They were led by senior Jessilyn Conicelli who recorded her 24th double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She also dished out 6 assists.
Senior Jennifer French led all scorers with 25 points, sinking 5-9 of her 3-point shots. Biola’s other three seniors, Christina Barclay, Deshaye Sells, and Megan Jackson contributed 6, 5, and 4 points respectively to cap off the Eagle’s senior night.
Biola was tied at 24-24 with the visiting Sea Lions at half time due to their problems on offense. They started the second half with a basket by Conicelli, which sparked a 22-7 run that buried Point Loma. Not only did the Eagles execute offensively, they also tightened up their defense and held the Sea Lions to only 16 points in the half. No player from Point Loma scored more than 8 points for the game.
The Eagles concluded the season 25-5 overall and 16-4 in the Golden State Athletic Conference to match the best record in the history of Biola’s women’s basketball program. Biola will play their first game of the GSAC Tournament at 7:30 p.m. on March 2nd at Chase Gymnasium.
