Biola women’s basketball beats Chapman

Biola women’s basketball won against Chapman University on Feb. 17, 60-46.

The Biola women’s basketball team, clad in white and pink jerseys to show support for the fight against breast cancer, overcame a sluggish start to cruise to a 60-46 victory over the visiting Chapman University Panthers.

After a very poor first half, Biola found themselves tied at 22-22 at half-time. The Eagles shot a horrendous 25 percent from the field and 10% from behind the 3-point line. Despite this, senior Jessilyn Conicelli scored 12 of her game high 16 points during that period. Within the opening minutes of the second half, Biola gained a five-point lead on a basket by senior Jennifer French and a 3-pointer by junior Charrise Reece.

The Eagles rode this momentum for the remainder of the game, leaving the Panthers in the dust. Conicelli recorded her 21st double-double of the season and her 11th in a row, by ripping down 18 boards to go along with her 16 points while shooting 50% from the field.

Senior Christina Barclay also contributed 12 points on 6-8 shooting. The Eagles have only one day to rest before they return to play on Feb. 19 in a home game against Concordia University at 5:30pm.
