Biola women’s basketball beats Vanguard

Biola’s women’s basketball team beat Vanguard 68-55.

Biola’s women’s basketball team turned back Vanguard University 68-55 in an away game. Senior Christina Barclay, who missed Tuesday’s game against Azusa Pacific University due to a back injury, scored 18 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.

She was one of three players in double figures. Senior Jessilyn Conicelli recorded her 17th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Jennifer French added 15 points.

Barclay put on an impressive performance in the first half, scoring Biola’s first 13 points. She also made 8-13 of her shots for the game. Vanguard took a slight lead with about 12 minutes left in the half, but after a 3-pointer by junior Emily Drews, the Eagles pulled ahead 18-20 and never looked back.

Although Biola shot only 37% in the first half, they held the Lions to a very low 29%. Both teams raised their field goal percentage in the second half; Biola fired 64% and Vanguard 38%. The Eagles’ record improved to 10-4 in the GSAC and 18-5 overall. They return to the hardwood on Tuesday February 8th against Masters College. Tip off is at 5:30pm at Chase Gymnasium.
