Wednesday’s women’s soccer game against Fresno Pacific University ended in a 1-1 draw, while Saturday’s game ended in a 2-2 draw against Point Loma Nazarene University.
Fresno Pacific, seventh in GSAC standings, scored the first goal ten minutes into the first half of Wednesday’s game. Biola responded with several shots towards the opponents goal.
Evening up the score six minutes before the end of the first half, senior Brianna Yarber scored her first goal of her college career, taking a shot from the middle of the box and hitting the cross bar to have the ball rebound into the goal. The rest of the game continued in an intense battle for a second goal, but neither team was able to score in either the second half or in overtime.
Saturday’s match against Point Loma started out with neither team scoring in the first half, but Biola broke the tension when junior forward Sarina Coutin corner-kicked the ball into the goal just eight minutes into the second half.
Only 13 seconds passed before the Sea Lions regained control of the ball and retaliated with a goal of their own. 22 minutes later Point Loma scored another goal from just in front of the net to lead the Eagles 2-1.
Biola responded with a goal made from in front of the box by freshman Jessica Austin, assisted by Coutin. The match evened to 2-2 nine minutes before the end of the second half. Overtime ended with Biola shooting two shots and Point Loma taking four, though neither were able to score.
The Eagles will have to wait for all GSAC games to finish before knowing if they will advance to playoffs.
