Saturday’s game against Concordia ended in yet another tie for the women’s soccer team. Concordia outshot Biola but neither team ended up scoring.
Junior Erin Frushon made her goal keeping skills known having saved seven shots fired at the goal. Biola was unable to get past the Concordia defensive line to take a solid shot. In overtime Concordia’s junior forward Alyssa McDonald launched a shot from just inside the box only to have it saved by Frushon. She took two more shots in overtime but could not score for Concordia.
Biola also tried to score in the second overtime but no shot made it past Concordia’s goal keeper Hayley Partridge. Freshman Natalie Oliver tried to break the dry spell and took a shot right inside the goal box but Partridge saved the ball. The game ended with many shots taken and many saved but no victor to conclude the match.
The Biola women’s team has been practicing six days a week in grueling three-hour practices. They are definitely putting the effort in but are finding it difficult to get wins. Many teams have stepped up their game this year and Concordia was no exception. Having won the last two games they have played, C oncordia has an overall GSAC record of 3-1-2. Currently Concordia is fourth in conference. Biola is ranked eighth in the conference standings and has a record of 1-2-3.
The eagles’ next match is Saturday, Oct. 23 against No. 21 Point Loma Nazarene University. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.
