On May 1, Biola’s Lacrosse team defeated Long Beach in a pre-nationals qualifying game at Biola.
At the end of the first half, Biola was leading Long Beach 10-1. Long Beach scored the first goal within the first minute of the game, Biola held them to that one goal until the fourth quarter.
In a strange turn of events, Biola’s scoring spree was actually started off by the goalie, No. 10 Jonny “Whitey” Lowell; running all the way across the field with the ball to score his team’s first goal. But this was far from Lowell’s play of the game; in the quarters to follow, Lowell made several amazing saves. Throughout the second and third quarters, Long Beach was unable to score a single goal due to Lowell’s extensive defense and coverage of the net.
Even though the play of the game is Lowell’s to claim, the team’s win was earned by every one of Biola’s players.
“The victory was not simply the hard work of one or two players,” sophomore, mid-fielder David Sigley said. “The entire team played a part in the victory … it was definitely our best game of the season”.
In spite of the hot weather, the Eagles still played an exceptional game. Of the many amazing plays in the game, what really gave the Eagles their victory was smooth and consistent passes, a solid defense, and good hustle throughout the entire game.
The stands were packed at Biola of friends and family from both teams. Being such a high scoring game, the all the fans became very passionate and excited with every play. Every save, goal and hard hit that the players made, the stands shook with cheer. Although, the crowds got heated, all of the players showed respect for the other team.
