Sophomore gets NAIA best time in 1500 meters

Biola track and field competes against both GSAC and NCAA teams at the Irvine Spring Break Classic.

Last weekend, Biola University’s track and field team competed in Irvine with various GSAC teams and even NCAA teams across the nation including Cornell, BYU, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine and UC Riverside.

Biola students who qualified included sophomore Nychele Fischetti, who recorded the best time in the NAIA this season in the 3,000 Steeplechase with a time of 11:10.55.

Junior Kelsey Gasner finished seventh in the 1500 with a time of 4:35.26. Her time was a NAIA best. She also qualified with “B” status in her open 800 race with a time of 2:17.47.

Junior Natasha Miller tops the NAIA performance list for the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.29. Miller also obtained provisional “B” standard in the 200 with a time of 25:26.

Juniors Katie Thede and Sarah Brooks also qualified. Thede qualified with a personal best of 4:38.56 in the 1500 while Brooks placed eighth in the 5,000 with a time of 18:02.24.

Biola will be back to competing Saturday, March 27 at Westmont College.
