Over the last six days, Biola has played a total of six games (three doubleheaders). Over the six game stretch, Biola won four and lost two to bring their record to a total of 14-10 (4-4 in GSAC).
Against Concordia, Biola outscored its opponent 23-0 over the two games for an easy two victories.
Then Biola lost two games by the scores of 1-3 and 4-6 to a tough California State San Marcos team. Lyndsie Roberts struck out five batters, but allowed a run in each of the final three innings for the loss.
Ultimately, the Eagles could not get any offense going against San Marcos’ pitching. In the second loss, the Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but their opponents responded with three in the second inning and spotted two more for the lead in the third inning. San Marcos pitcher Brenna Sandburg shut down the Eagles for the rest of the game and the Eagles suffered the loss.
Biola bounced back on Tuesday, however, with a pair of victories against rivals Azusa Pacific University Cougars. In the first game, senior Krista Johnson smashed a two run home run in the first inning and the Eagles took an early 3-0 lead and never looked back. Junior Lyndsie Roberts picked up the win in the game as she only gave up one run in game one. The victory bumped Roberts’ record up to 7-5 for the season.
In the second game, APU left 11 base runners on the base paths, and Biola was able to capitalize on APU’s inability to turn base runners into runs. Kristen Larson picked up the win to improve her record to 6-5, and Biola scored three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to pick up their 14th victory of the season. Despite being out hit 7-4, the Eagles used excellent pitching and defense to win the game 4-0.
Junior Jillian Storm went 3 for 5 on the day and scored three of the team’s eight runs, while Roberts and Johnson each had two hits for the day. The Eagles look to carry their momentum over the weekend as they travel to Costa Mesa to take on Vanguard for the first time this season.
