AS lobbying keeps downtown Biola open later

Starting after Easter, Common Grounds and Eagle’s Nest will be open until 1 a.m.

Common Grounds and Eagle’s Nest will stay open until 1 a.m., beginning after students return from Easter Break.

AS President Mark Heath announced the news in Tuesday afternoon’s senate meeting. Don Sims, senior director of auxiliary services, approved the request for later hours after Heath discussed the matter with him. The later hours will be a trial run, of sorts.
“I’m assuming that it will show that it is popular and then we would continue it on into next year,” Sims said.

Friday through Sunday hours will stay the same. Common Grounds and Eagle’s Nest are currently open until midnight Monday through Thursday.

Hours were longer when Sims first arrived 16 years ago, but were shortened after the places failed to get enough business, he said.

If for some reason Commons and Eagle’s fail to get enough business to make up for the later hours, Sims said Biola might make up the difference to Bon Appétit.

“I don’t want them to be losing a money on a decision we make,” he said.
