Eagles softball went 5-1 during an Ashland, Ore. tournament over the weekend.

The team went into the tournament 3-3 and immediately took the first two games on Thursday. They defeated Oregon Tech and Northwest Christian by the score of 4-2 and 6-3 respectively.

The team’s 4-2 victory over Oregon Tech avenged their previous 1-0 loss earlier in the season. The two victories put the Eagles on a season-high five-game winning streak dating back to their previous tournament. The difference in the game came from an inside-the-park three run homer by senior outfielder, Brittany Bury. It was her second inside-the-park home run of the year. Junior Lyndsie Roberts pitched a gem as she threw four innings and scattered five hits while allowing no earned runs.

The Eagles followed up their victory over Oregon Tech with a solid performance over Northwest Christian. Senior, Krista Johnson hit a two run inside-the-park homer which managed to be the difference in the game. Junior pitcher, Kristin Larson threw three innings of one-hit ball while Roberts finished the final four innings with seven strikeouts.

Following the two victories on Thursday, Biola lost to Simpson University by the score of 2-1 for its second loss to them for the season. However, Biola rebounded with three victories over Holy Names, a second victory over Oregon Tech and a victory over Concordia. Following the tournament, the Eagles were quite impressed with their pitching and defense as they did not surrender more than three runs in a single game while averaging over four runs per game.

Biola returned home to play a double header against Point Loma University to open up GSAC play. Unfortunately, the Eagles were swept by the Seals by scores of 6-1 and 10-3. The two losses bring the Eagles record to 8-6, (0-2).

The Eagles look to rebound from their losses with a double header against Hope International University on Thursday at home.
