The No.2 GSAC Eagles headed to Irvine in an attempt to steal a victory egg from Concordia’s nest. Despite the tough defense on both sides, the No. 1 team in GSAC will remain in the top spot and will set its sights on a conference title.

Before the game, Biola’s assistant coach Jim Larson said that in order for the team to succeed they needed to have good energy and confidence. The Eagles did just that as they came out shooting confidently early in the first half. They remained ahead of their opponent until the last 2 minutes of play. The home team finished the half in lead by a score of 30-28 which occurred after a seven-point run.

Coming out of the locker room, Concordia looked to extend their lead. They remained in the lead and finished off Biola in the last eight minutes of the game. Biola had poor shooting from the free throw line (10-22), and Concordia took advantage of Biola’s 18 turnovers by scoring 21 points. The final score was 70-61.
“They are very good, and we have respect for them,” said Larson.

The top three shooters for Biola were seniors Rocky Hampton, Marlon King and junior Josh Miller. They combined for a total of 44 out of the team’s 61 points.
Individually, Hampton’s 18 points played a huge role in his team’s shooting percentage of 51.2. On the other side, Concordia’s top shooter was Justin Johnson. He led his team to a shot percentage of 45.8.

This game had crucial consequences to Biola’s standings in GSAC and in playoffs. The loss against Concordia drops the Eagles’ GSAC record down to 13-4. They are now battling to stay alive in the No. 2 spot as Fresno Pacific is creeping behind in third place with a record of 12-5. One team to look out for is Westmont as they continue their hot five-game winning streak.

Biola plays next against The Master’s College on Tuesday, Feb 23.
