The Biola Eagle’s baseball team sent a thundering message to their conference this week as they dominated the diamond once again. The Eagles blew out Bethany University in a two-day series, improving their record to 5-0 on the season.

The Eagles began the series Monday with a convincing 16-3 win. Chris Baek kept his season record unblemished as he pitched for the third game of the Eagles’ four games this season. Baek has allowed only two runs on two hits over eight innings. He has pushed his number to five strike outs and dropped his ERA to 1.42.

The Eagles continued their strong offensive play as they tallied 15 hits in the game. The Eagles offense produced at least one hit from 13 out of 19 Eagle players. Sophomore Vinnie Fayard and junior Garrett Leon were the only players with multiple hits, Fayard hitting a home run with two RBI’s and Leon with two hits and three runs scored.

Biola recorded four runs in the fifth inning as the Bruins pitcher walked two batters and hit another. Facing a new pitcher with the bases loaded, senior catcher Daniel Bodemer drove in two runs with a single to left field. Two more runs were batted in on a sacrifice fly to end the inning. The Eagles crushed Bethany with a final score of 16-3.

The two teams would meet again at Eagles Diamond Tuesday. The Eagles once again showed their dominance as they pummeled Bethany 14-3 for the second straight day. Tuesday’s win put the Eagles at 5-0 on the season.

The Eagles were first to get on the scoreboard again as Leon hit a home run in the third inning. Sophomore Boone Farrington led the way, going 4 for 5. Fayard added a pair of hits including a home run that drove in two runs, and sophomore Mac Sullivan contributed a home run of his own.

Junior Jeff Grijalva claimed his second win of the season as he gave up only three runs. Grijalva allowed six hits while striking out six batters in six innings.

Bethany showed some life early as the scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings, but Biola later jumped ahead with five runs in the sixth inning, holding a commanding 10-2 lead. Bethany added one more run in the seventh inning that was followed by four Eagle runs in the seventh as well.

The Eagles are scheduled to host Madonna University (Michigan) in a non-conference doubleheader at Eagles Diamond Friday, Feb. 19.
