The Biola swim team took a short drive over to Long Beach for the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships last Wednesday through Saturday. The Eagles fared well despite being matched up against Division I schools in the overall team competition,.

The men placed seventh overall with 312 points and featured a great individual effort by senior Zach Perkins, who broke his own school record in the 100 Free with a time of 47.44.

The women finished 12th overall as a team and also had an outstanding performer. Junior April Smith set new school records in the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, and 200 Individual Medley. Smith’s blazing 200 Breast time should put her as the top seed going into the NAIA Nationals in that event, according to Coach Shepard.

Shepard was a little surprised at how well his team performed, only because they have not had a lot of rest recently. He was very pleasantly surprised at everyone’s effort and is excited for Nationals.

“I am confident that we will do extremely well at Nationals,” said Shepard.

Nationals will take place March 3-6 in St. Peters, Mo.
