The Eagles needed an extra quarter to do it, but they got the job done. On Tuesday, the women’s basketball team pulled off a 88-76 upset win over No. 20 Westmont College in a regular GSAC game.

Biola got a lot of help from junior Jessilyn Conicelli, who netted 22 points and grabbed 12 boards for her fifth double-double of the season. She also had four assists, one block and one steal.

Conicelli was almost the hero in regulation. She had a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left but failed to convert, which allowed Westmont’s Alisha Heglund to launch a three-pointer with time running out to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Conicelli would redeem herself in overtime. She scored six points, and with a knock-down three-ball from senior guard Chelsea De Luca with 1:37 to go, the Eagles would pull away and sink their free throws to seal the victory.

The Eagles improve to 8-6 on the season with their fifth win in the last six games. The team is now alone in fourth-place with a 4-2 conference record. The Warriors fall to 10-4 overall in the midst of a three game losing streak and drop to 3-3 in the GSAC.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Jan. 12), hosting Concordia University in a GSAC game at Chase Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
