Senate Meeting: 12/04/07

At the AS Senate’s weekly Tuesday meetings senators give audience to parties requesting money, vote on pending proposals and discuss finances. Here is an outlined summary of the most recent senate meeting, which was held Dec. 4.

NEW PROPOSALS

Yearbook editor-in-chief—$800

  • Computer software—Adobe Creative Suite 3.
  • They currently have Creative Suite 2.
  • Postage costs for advertising senior ads.

Advertising Campaign for A.S. website—$1,500

  • Pens, Post-it notes, signs

VOTING (on proposals from the previous week)

1. Dorm Banners—$1,400, DENIED

  • Senators didn’t believe the banners would inspire the excitement Spirit Board anticipates.
  • Talked about other ideas that might work better, i.e. trophies for winning dorm competitions or nicer, cloth banners.

2. Second paid web editor position for The Chimes—$8/week, 15 hours/week, DENIED

  • This was a bylaw change to the A.S. constitution, which requires a two-thirds majority.
  • Passed in majority, but not by two-thirds.
