The intramural season is drawing to a close, with games in all leagues finishing up this weekend. The playoff picture is shaping up, and first round match-ups are falling into place.
Dodgeball finished its season late Wednesday night and looks forward to some exciting match ups in the playoffs next week. Lil Bit O’ Color, which is also a volleyball team, was undefeated heading into the last week of season play and should hold the playoff’s top seed. They will be followed closely by Bad News and the Poke Masters who both entered the last week with just one loss. Three Guys, Four Girls, Off in the Woods, Cat Straighters and the Phoenix Suns will all reach the second season.
Intramural board president Tyler Groenink (who is a member of first place team Lil’ Bit O’ Color) speaks highly of dodgeball’s success, which is a new inception to intramural sports at Biola this year.
“It has been the most consistent sport with the least amount of forfeits,” he explained. Groenink also praised an impressive fan base.
“The Poke Masters have like 30 people cheering them on each time they play,” he said. “They are loud and sometimes a little obnoxious. It’s great.”
Flag football’s final week of regular season play will provide some exciting match-ups with playoff implications. The biggest match-up of the weekend will come on the men’s side when 7-0 Michael Vick’s Dogs face off with 6-1 MMV. The two will meet Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The outcome of the game will decide the second seed in the playoff picture.
EV Free and Fortitude will battle to decide who will be the lone winless team on the season. It has the fixings of a real dogfight, with bragging rights and the threat of a shameful season on the line.
On the women’s side, Armageddon looks to finish off the perfect season and head into the playoffs on a real high. They will play the 1-6 Cage Fighters who need to fight hard in order stay out of the cellar.
In the world of Ultimate Frisbee, the Centennials and Hash Baz look to pull off the perfect season in the last week of play. They could shape up to meet in next Sunday’s championship game, as both stand undefeated for the time being.
Volleyball’s A-league is crowded at the top, and this last week of the regular season could completely change the playoff picture. The Hobbits, Updog, Hope VC and Lil Bit O’ Color will all battle for a top seed. All fall intramural sports will start playoffs next week, with championship games being played all throughout the weekend.
