Crime Log ― Sept. 7 – Sept. 21

This crime log includes cases of grand theft, petty theft, hit and runs, trespassing, accidental fire and extortion.

Grand Theft ― Rosecrans Avenue

Reported Sept. 7 between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

On Sept. 7, a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle that was parked on the street in front of the Block apartments on Rosecrans Avenue. The case remains active and the victim filed a personal claim with the Sheriff’s Department.

Fire: Accidental Cause ― Rosecrans Apartment 3

Reported Sept. 11, 1:35 p.m.

A cooking fire began on a stove top on Sept. 11. Those in the apartment complex called 911 and the fire department arrived on the scene. Minor smoke and heat damage occurred to the stove and cabinets. Nothing was severely burned. The incident was cleared with no follow up required.

Grand Theft ― El Espejo Road

Reported Sept. 15, occurred on Sept. 14 at 11 p.m.

A second catalytic convertor was stolen from a vehicle on Sept. 14 on a street intersecting with Rosecrans Avenue. The victim later made a report with the sheriff’s office. The case is still active.

Hit and Run: Property Damage ― Lot G

Reported Sept. 15 at 9 a.m., occurred prior.

A hit and run at Hope Hall was noticed on Sept. 15 after the owner of the vehicle returned and saw damage to the passenger mirror. The victim filed a case with the police department and is still active.

Hit and Run: Property Damage ― Lot R

Reported Sept. 15 at 4:01 p.m., occurred on Sept. 13 between 10:20 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.

The incident occurred on Sept. 13 in the parking structure under the soccer field. The owner of the vehicle found damage to the rear bumper of the car. The case has not been filed with the sheriff’s department and remains active in the university.

Extortion ― Horton Hall

Reported Sept. 17 at 12:27 p.m., occurred prior.

The incident occurred online on Friday afternoon and is still under investigation. Campus Safety cannot provide substantial details, as the case is still active.

Trespassing ― Gatehouse #1

Reported Sept. 20, occurred at 2:09 a.m.

The incident was reported on Monday morning by Campus Safety, who made contact with the suspect. University officers called local sheriffs to the scene, who gave an official warning to the suspect and released him. The case is still active.

Petty Theft ― South Campus

Reported Sept. 20, occurred at 1:50 a.m.

A sign was stolen from the campus gate on the south end on Monday. Campus Safety explained that the petty theft was related to the trespassing. The case is still active.

Petty Theft ― Perez Hall

Reported Sept. 20 at 2:09 a.m.

A second petty theft was also linked to the trespassing at Gatehouse #1 on Monday morning. A scooter was stolen from campus and the suspect was apprehended and removed from campus. The case is still active.
