Women’s soccer traveled to Fresno Pacific University on Saturday, Nov. 16 to compete in their final regular season game in the PacWest conference. The Eagles started out sluggish, down two goals in the first half before finding the sole goal to bring the deficit to one at the half. Biola continued to fight and held the Sunbirds from finding the back of the net for the rest of the game. The Eagles evened out the score before the buzzer, sending the game into overtime where they found themselves at the better end of a 3-2 victory.
The night began with the Sunbirds in control. A quick 2-0 lead by FPU jilted the Eagles. Biola snapped out of their lethargic pace and zoned in on finding offensive gain. Senior defender Colie Martin shot a pass across the box to freshman forward Christine Goodman who was able to find the goal, putting the Eagles on the board.
BU shifted their mentality in the second half, and their defense held the Sunbirds from advancing further away. The Eagles kicked their offense into gear and forced the FPU goalkeeper to stay on her toes with multiple shots on goal from Biola. Senior midfielder Hali Oakes tied up the game at 2-2 thanks to an assist by senior forward Sarah Jeffries. The Eagles remained in control during the additional minutes of overtime. It was the game-winning goal by freshman midfielder Halie Jamir who gave her team the final victory of their 2019 regular season.
Senior defender Madyson Brown became Biola’s all-time leader in minutes (6,981) and career starts (77) in her final regular season game as an Eagle.
The Eagles (11-5-2 overall, 8-2-1 PacWest) will wait to see who they will compete against in the PacWest postseason tournament.
