Burger Quest: G Burger praised for gourmet burgers

While G Burger leans on the more expensive side of burger places, its gourmet menu is worth the price.

Unmatched is probably the only word that can accurately describe the grandeur that is G Burger. The “G” stands for gourmet, of course, which is a perfect assessment of the restaurant’s quality meats and produce.

Located exclusively on La Habra Boulevard, just east of Euclid Street, this burger joint has garnered a well-deserved reputation among the locals for crafting one of the finest hamburgers in the area.

Meal worth the price

OC Weekly named it Best Hamburger of 2011 in Orange County, and the Orange County Register lists it as one of the “best spots to find a gourmet hamburger without being ripped off.”

Note, however, that while you won’t be ripped off, your wallet might feel a bit lighter after dropping $8 to $13 for your meal. But what you’ll be presented with will not disappoint.

Owner George Makri and his talented crew of chefs cook and serve only 100 percent certified grain-fed, hormone-free Angus beef that is ground daily. They then fashion them with fine produce and toppings that Makri shops for personally. Their deli cheeses? Sliced fresh daily. Their signature sauces, onion rings and fried zucchini? Made from scratch every day. Basically, every item of food put into their burgers and sides is of the finest possible quality.

Most popular item is the G Burger

The menu offers customers a few stock hamburger options, including a cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger (which I highly recommend), chili cheeseburger and the Square One, a plain burger for picky eaters. An array of gourmet cheeses are available to be placed on your cheeseburger, with the most creative choice being the fresh goat cheese. American, cheddar, pepper jack, Swiss and bleu cheese represent the standard cheese selections.

The most popular burger, however, is the G Burger, advertised as “Any way you like it!” Throw just about anything you want on it, and the more goodies you top it with, the higher the chances your burger will be stabbed with a steak knife — necessary, of course, for the burger to hold its form. Consider adding grilled pineapple, teriyaki-glazed onions, pastrami or fried egg to garnish your sandwich.

The G Fries are served artfully in a large coffee filter, encased by a decorative red bowl and seasoned with fresh herbs. Perfectly cooked for the ideal amount of crispiness, these fries are a textbook complement to your hamburger creation.

Still, you might be deterred by the high asking price to consume such a cuisine. Not to worry. $11 will buy you a massive cheeseburger, G Fries enough to feed two and a small soda. Empty stomachs will most certainly be satisfied.

G Burger is truly unmatched, in the Orange County region at least. This seemingly hole-in-the-wall restaurant disguises an artsy diner filled with some of the most professional burger chefs in the area constructing mouth-watering meals. In the words of Makri, “We believe you’ll love the results.”
