Double-doubles help Eagles in win

Senior Chelsea Hill and sophomore Adijat Adams each recorded double-doubles, as the Eagles held on to beat the Sea Lions 64-55 on Saturday night. Senior Lauren Gustafson finished with 12 points and senior Charrise Reece contributed 13 points and five assists.

After taking an early lead in the first half, the Eagles were looking at a five-point deficit with less than five minutes to play.

“We needed to just continue to play hard defense and look for the open person,” Adams said.

After that, Gustafson’s three-point play from the left wing with 3:42 remaining and Adams’ layup quickly ended the Sea Lions’ lead. Biola made 60.87 percent of their free throws, which was crucial in the second half as 10 of those free throws secured their win in the last three minutes of the game.

The Sea Lions’ Brianna Colon led all scorers, with a total of 19 points and six rebounds. But Biola’s defense came up big in the the last period as they allowed Point Loma only eight of 23 field goals.

Reece played a great game as she not only contributed five assists but made sure her team kept focus.

“She [Reece] was in my ear, in a good way,” Adams said. “Telling me I should stop thinking about what I’m going to do next, but to just play basketball and take what the defense was giving me.”

7-0 run secures win for Eagles

In Fresno, Calif., the Eagles secured their second win in a row as they dominated the Grizzlies 74-64 on Tuesday night. Adams recorded a season high of 24 points along with Hill who added 22 points, while Reece put up five assists.

Fresno Pacific kept the game close throughout, as they only trailed by three points with 1:47 in the first half. But Biola’s offense secured the lead with a 7-0 run that ended the period 33-22.
The second half was no different as the Eagles kept up to a 16 point lead late in the game.

Fresno Pacific’s Keri Stephanoff also recorded a team-high 20 points and 13 rebounds. However, the Eagles’ defense held the Grizzlies to a 34.8 field goal percentage in the game, while Biola made 45.1 percent of their field goals. Although Biola recorded 16 turnovers, the Grizzlies turned the ball over 14 times which led to 23 Eagle points.

The Eagles will play their next non-conference game against Chapman University on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. before returning home for their final regular season conference home game on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Hope International University at 5:30 p.m.
